5 Things to Do When You Hate Your Job

There’s nothing worse is there?

Nothing worse than going into a job you hate. Day after day.

Every morning you drag yourself into the place, wishing you could call in sick. But you’re not that sort of person.

You just hate your job, but you’re not alone. There are millions of people out there doing it.

All of them trying to become immune. And all of them dying a little bit inside. Every day.

The crazy thing is that it really doesn’t have to be this way. Despite how powerless you might feel, you actually have a lot of control over the situation.

Here are 5 things to do when you hate your job.

1.  Reduce Personal Stress

When you feel your job is sucking the life-force, and energy, out of you then it’s time to rethink and rebalance. (Click to Tweet) Try to reduce the stress in other parts of your life as much as possible.

Free up some personal time by getting rid of any option extras, and start prioritising self-care. Do things you enjoy. Hang out with people who make you feel good.

It won’t make you love your job, but it will make life easier and more enjoyable. We all have limits, and you need to reduce the amount of stress you’re currently experiencing.

2.  Review Your Hours

Take a look at the hours you’re spending at work. Are they too long? What would your ideal week look like?

Before you start thinking, “I can’t change my hours” stop and rephrase the question. If you ask yourself, “How can I change this?” you’ll start thinking of creative solutions.

Maybe you can cut back on some expenses and work fewer hours. Or maybe you can negotiate other solutions with your employer.

3.  Strengthen Your Connections

If you’re struggling to find meaning or satisfaction in your current role, build connections. By strengthening your connections with your colleagues you’ll feel a greater sense of purpose.

When you strengthen your connections with your friends and family you’ll also feel more supported, better understood, and stronger emotionally. If you decide to make a change they’ll understand your reasons and support you through the transition.

4.   Discover Your Strengths And Passions

It’s an easy mistake to make.

Skimping on staff training, I mean. But it causes a lot of problems.

It can result in poor staff performance, not to mention guilt.

You know what I mean.

That horrible feeling of self-recrimination. The remorse that comes from knowing we’re at least a little to blame for a staff member underperforming.

Just because we trimmed the training budget.

The trick is to learn from the situation. Learn and move on, to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

And the first thing you need to understand are all the reasons why it’s critical to invest in staff training and development.

This infographic covers everything you need to know.
