Certificate III Guarantee

The Certificate 3 Guarantee is a key initiative under the Queensland Government's five-year training reform action plan, Great skills. Real opportunities.

The Certificate 3 Guarantee provides a government subsidy to support eligible individuals to complete their first post-school certificate III qualification.

It also supports Queensland's Year 12 graduates to transition to employment by providing fee-free training in high priority qualifications.

To be eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee, an individual must:

  • Not hold or be currently undertaking a certificate III or higher level qualification. This does not include certificate III qualifications completed while at secondary school
  • Be 15 years of age or older
  • Have finished secondary school or left school
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident residing in Queensland, or New Zealand citizen permanently residing in Queensland (i.e. a person with a New Zealand Passport who can also produce documentary evidence of a Queensland residential address)

Certificate 3 Guarantee - Fee-free training for Year 12 graduates

Overview

Year 12 graduates can access fee-free training in high priority areas if they start training with an approved training provider within a year of leaving school.

The fee-free training applies to high priority qualifications available under the Queensland Government's Certificate 3 Guarantee program or User Choice program, which funds workplace-based apprenticeship and traineeship training.

High priority qualifications are qualifications which provide training in the skills most needed by employers and industry.

Participant eligibility

To be eligible to access fee-free training, you must:

  • Have completed Year 12 in Queensland and hold a Senior Statement issued by the Queensland Studies Authority (or the 'Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority' which replaced the Queensland Studies Authority from 1 July 2014) or equivalent certificate that confirms you have completed Year 12 in Queensland
  • Enrol and start training with an approved training provider by the end of the calendar year following the completion of Year 12
  • Live permanently in Queensland.
